Sporty Smart-3

Sporty Smart

During the month of May, I was traveling like mad, home for only a total of four days.  Most of the work for that month required clothes that were versatile and could accommodate movement.  I have recently become a fan of sporty pants that go from gym to meeting and these Athleta pants serve exactly that function.  I love them so much I bought them in every color.  You can do anything from moving furniture to showing up at date night in them.  I paired them with fancy heels, geek-chic accessories and bright colors to go to a South Florida lunch at the Breakers.

Stolen Heart {Again}

Ten years later and my heart is still stolen by my Gentlemen Thief…

For our third wedding anniversary, Apollo and I decided to do an anniversary photo shoot in the city where we met and fell in love, Vegas – in all of its grandeur and oddities – to remember our first decade together – in all of its ups and downs.  It was so fun to rendezvous around our city with our two photographers Jason of Table 4 Photography and Kim Le of KLP Photography (also another couple in love), shamelessly displaying our affection from the glamorous lights of the strip to the endless colors of the desert sunset.

Diner Romance-6

Diner Romance

I was honored to be recently asked by VietSun magazine to help them curate their lifestyle fashion column, which previously featured I Minh Touch, Haus of Color, Lace and Locks.  It’s been a fun journey to connect with Vietnamese bloggers and help the Vietnamese diaspora to be inspired to have a better sense of style.  For the June issue, VietSun wanted me to participate, and this was one of the looks I chose.  You can see the full feature here.

As a performer, I’m very fortunate to be able to embrace fashion as a way of life.  As a writer, I love fashion because it inspires me to tell a visual tale with the routine items of everyday dressing.  The functional act of clothing oneself becomes transformed with self-expression, and stories are told without words.  Fashion is not just a manner of the clothes, but a reflection of the times in which we live and the ideas with which we’re surrounded.  This is why I have a deep affection for collecting vintage treasures on my travels.  Vintage dressing and wearing trends of past decades allow me to evoke nostalgia and sprinkle my life with a bit of fantasy.  The outfit here transports me back to the 50′s, a happy era that floated on post-war optimism and bubbled with ladylike elegance, displayed in the classic length of this midi skirt.  I paired it with sheer lace crop tops to modernize the story as well as adapt the looks to welcome warm summer nights.

Golden State {of mind}

I spent most of my teenage life and young adulthood in the golden state, years filled with the open, sun-filled, lungs-satisfying air, highways, as well as the characteristic diversity and multi-colored personalities of California.  I moved from California when I was twenty-four, for love, work, and a heart desiring of new horizons.  But a part of my soul has always stayed with LA, and occasionally I feel a twinge of rebellion when others speak of it in disdain.  After a decade of being away, the Mister and I have decided to split our time between LA and Vegas, hoping for the perfect balance of ocean and desert.  A couple of months ago, we took a trip to California’s Central Coast, and the magnificent water unfolded my heart in humility, in tremendous gratitude for this new chapter on which we’re about to embark.  I chose two of my summer favorite pieces for the gorgeous 17-mile-drive between Monterey & Carmel, that represented the bohemian casual cool of California, this lacey Dolce Vita and my beloved Isabel Marants.

Central Coast California

When it comes to the magnificence of nature, few landscapes send me into awe like the Central Coast of California.  Although my former Californian self might be a bit biased, but I think many adventure travelers will agree with me about this.  Within a stretch of less than 60 miles, the spectacular coastline of Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur will render you breathless.  Cradled with the majestic beauty of Big Sur, a scenic drive reveals the tender beauty of delicate Carmel and the small-town charm of Monterey and I’m left absolutely stunned.
