A few of you have asked me what I wear to perform and the short answer is “not a top hat” :). As a female magician who does mostly strolling performances, I get a lot of flexibility in my performance outfits. It all depends on the environment of the gig as well the booking client.
A lot of my shows are corporate gigs, which means that I need to be somewhat professionally dressed. Most corporate clients are flexible but some are quite conservative. I usually wear black, red, or royal blue. Black is my reliable plan A because it’s approved by most clients and work for most show formats.
This outfit is my current favorite while performing, although I don’t get to wear it often because of the “provocative” lace. I love the different romantic textures, from the sheer chiffon of the maxi skirt to the scalloped sleeves. I don’t often wear jewelry when I perform because they tend to be accused of being my “tricky assistants”.
This is my adaptation of a performing outfit into play… I added the edgy black leather collar with gold flowers and Jackie O. sunglasses to give it a street-style feel. I hope you like it.
I’m finally in the process of putting together a new promotional video for my strolling work, but here is an old one for your enjoyment: Ava Do – Deceptionist
