With the travel schedule that my clothes bear, function has to be as much a consideration as form. As much as I adore outfits that maximize creativity and mixology, I also need outfits that perform well as work horses: wrinkle-free plane-friendly separates that don’t look straight like I just rolled out of bed but allow me to feel like it.
This Maje top is perfect for this. With a little bit of silk paneling on top, it remains sophisticated but feels comfortable. Tucked into a brocade skirt or loosely draped over black jeans, it serves as my filet mignon or my mac-and-cheese.

Maje top, J Crew jeans, BCBG necklace & satchel, vintage belt, Ann Taylor wedges.

{new york} new york

Start spreading the news
I am leaving today

I want to be a part of it
New York, New York

These vagabond shoes
They are longing to stray

Right through the very heart of it
New York, New York

I want to wake up in that city
That doesn’t sleep

And find I’m king of the hill
Top of the heap

My little town blues
They are melting away

I gonna make a brand new start of it
In old New York

If I can make it there
I’ll make it anywhere

It’s up to you
New York, New York

{descends} autumn

Needless to say, as much as I pretend to be a realist and at times even a cynic, at the core I’m really a romantic.  And thus autumn is undoubtedly my favorite season.  If there was an ideal place for me to live, it would be one with four months of autumn, three months of spring, three months of summer and two months of winter.  So now that my favorite season is finally here in the Vegas desert, it’s time for the embrace of all things deep burgundy, wine, & mauve; as well as the abandonment of work for reading poetry, even if just for a day or two.  I leave you with this wise passage by by Lloyd Schwartz’s “Leaves”

“Every October it becomes important, no, necessary to see the leaves turning, to be surrounded by leaves turning; it’s not just the symbolism, to confront in the death of the year your death, one blazing farewell appearance, though the irony isn’t lost on you that nature is most seductive when it’s about to die, flaunting the dazzle of its incipient exit, an ending that at least so far the effects of human progress (pollution, acid rain) have not yet frightened you enough to make you believe is real; that is, you know this ending is a deception because of course nature is always renewing itself— the trees don’t die, they just pretend, go out in style, and return in style: a new style”

{’tis the season of} thankfulness

“gratitude is the heart’s memory”

the holiday season is upon us, and being the shameless Christmas addict that I am, I’ve begun my full-on embrace of all things holiday-ish.  we will travel to Vietnam this Christmas and New Year’s, so I’ve decided to start Noel early with this series of photos from the Bellagio’s breathtaking decorations at their conservatory.

thank you for all of your love this year, it is a great fortune of mine to have this small space on the infinite web to share part of my life with you.  happy day of thanks to you and your communities!

Autumn has been playing hard to get with me this year.  Our performing schedule has arranged in such a way that the destinations of our shows keep welcoming us with gorgeous 80+ degree weather.  As much as I have been waiting to wear my layers, I know better than to complain about all the golden sunshine with which I’ve been blessed.  Thank you California.

Zara skirt and boots (also worn here), Anthropologie cropped sweater & necklace (also seen here), Banana Republic bangles, Charm bracelets gifted from my friend Bao Han, BCBG clutch.
